About Financial Science
Financial Science originated from University College London’s Doctoral Training Centre in Financial Computing and Analytics through an initiative to commercialise research and demonstrate best practice in the field.
Our team founded the UK Centre for Financial Computing, a collaboration of UCL, Imperial College and London School of Economics and major financial institutions and commercial organisations. It has over 80 PhD students and 400 associated Masters students working on finance and business to develop advanced analytics and software. It is the leading organisation for AI/Machine Learning research in the UK http://ai.cs.ucl.ac.uk/. The Centre for Financial Computing & Analytics research group www.financialcomputing.org has developed algorithmic trading systems and models including systemic risk with the Bank of England and FCA.
Historically, over the long term, economic growth has provided an average annual return of around 7% from a balanced portfolio spread across markets. Using machine learning algorithms we aim to achieve in excess of this, after costs, with reduced volatility.
We believe that automation will provide better performance than an index fund at lower cost and with greater transparency than a traditional hedge fund. We target outperformance above index returns, with downside protection for capital preservation during market declines.
We continually enhance machine learning to optimise investments. Signal generation, asset allocation and risk management evolve through artificial intelligence applied to expanding data sources. This improves stock selection, portfolio construction and downside protection.
The Financial Science automated trading engines rapidly process very large volumes of data, optimise investment strategies and dynamically account for alterations in the market. They use an ensemble approach across a range of data sources. By processing more information more effectively we provide investors with a lower risk, higher return edge.
